It started with a question about what we owed the places we came from.
Mount Eagle’s first activity in East Africa was not an investment. It was philanthropy — community programmes begun in 2006 that are still running today.
The holding company followed in 2009, and with it a deliberate decision: build businesses that employ people in the same communities the philanthropy served, rather than fund the philanthropy from somewhere else entirely.
